A portrait of a blockhead drinking sake. Japan is known for sake to foreigners. When I moved to Fukuoka I found out that sochu is also really popular. I’m not too crazy about it though. Actually, I haven’t been drinking much at all these days. The blockhead character is fun to draw. I’m not sure if they’re representing a human, a Japanese person, an American, or what. Blockhead translates in Google to idiot, but I don’t think of them as stupid. It’s mostly a reference to Gumby, and simply just fun to draw a character with a block head.

酒を飲むブロックヘッドのポートレート。外国人にとって、日本は酒で有名です。福岡に引っ越してきて、焼酎もとても人気があることを知りました。でも、私はそれほど好きではありません。実は、最近はほとんど飲んでいません。バカな男のキャラクターは描くのが楽しいです。人間なのか、日本人なのか、アメリカ人なのか、それとも何か他のものを表しているのかはわかりません。Google では「Blockhead」は「ばか」と翻訳されますが、私はバカだとは思いません。主にガンビーを参考にしていますが、頭の悪いキャラクターを描くのは単純に楽しいです。
